Quantitative Description of Duplex Stainless Steels Microstructure Using Selective Etching

The properties of duplex stainless steels (DSSs) depend on the ferrite–austenite ratio, content secondary phases and contamination with non-metallic inclusions. To assess quality DSSs, it is necessary to use an integrated approach which includes controlling for volume fraction, morphology distribution all Samples several grades DSSs were obtained using various heat treatments, such as solution annealing quenching from 1050 1250 °C obtain different amounts ferrite provoke at 850 precipitate ?-phase. As a result, metallographic technique phase analysis in based selective etching subsequent structure parameters estimation according ASTM E1245 was developed. We demonstrated that developed method quantitative allows us obtaining much more accurate results, compared point count described E562 XRD method.
